Subject: Re: Hutcherson - Lancaster

I have some information that might fit your Washington Hutcherson and sister Nancy Hutcherson - married the Lancaster brother and sister.

William Hutcherson died in Spotsylvania Co and shortly followed by his wife Sarah ( Redd) Hutcherson - as per the payment for her coffin just after his. They had a large family but, alas, his will only names a few of the children..the Douglas Register a few more.

Their oldest daughter, Letitia Hutcherson, married Samuel Wharton who was one of the very first ARW pensioners, having both hands blown off by a cannon ball.

I note that you have for parents of Washington Hutcherson - Sarah Read Wharton, which I think is a mix-up with parents and this eldest daughter's husbands name.

RECORDS _ (from photo-copies ordered from Spotsylvania Co)

DOUGLAS REGISTER: Rev. William Douglas was living in Louisa Co., Va. at this time.
Entries (some) which happened on the same day:

13 May 1781
William Hutcherson & Sarah Reid (Redd) dau Nancy b 20 Dec 1780 (bapt)
Jo Coleman & Hannah Hutcherson dau Cattie-Waggoner b 15 Mar 1781 (bapt)
Mrs. Hutcherson's funeral in Spotsylvania

8 Mar 1786
Letty Hutcherson & Samuel Wharton married in Spotsylvania
William Hutcherson & Sarah Redd son Thomas b 15 Mar 1783 (bapt)
William Hutcherson & Sarah Redd son Washington b 1 Dec 1783 (bapt)
Jo Hutcherson & Mary Stears dau Jean Stears b 21 Nov 1785 (bapt)

(NOTE: an error in recording birth years of Thomas & Washington Hutcherson, who could not have been born both in 1783)

One can see that Rev. Douglas made a trip into Spotsylvania for a reason, once for the funeral of Mrs. Hutcherson and another time for the marriage of Letitia "Letty" Hutcherson & would on that day also baptize family members at the same time. SEE notes for an entire list of what he did on each of those trips.

William & Sarah (Redd) Hutcherson raised a large family but as yet I have only been able to find a few of those children.

Spotsylvania Co., Va. Marriages: Washington Hutcherson to Elizabeth Lancaster= 12/13 Dec 1816

I would be interested in corresponding with you if you think William Hutcherson and Sarah Redd are possible parents of your Washington Hutcherson.

Sincerely,
Anne
